Human activity has brought about huge changes to ecosystems across the Amazon River basin, including deforestation and soil erosion. With support from the Rolex Perpetual Planet Initiative, National Geographic Explorers Hinsby Cadillo-Quiroz, Jennifer Angel-Amaya and Josh West are combining their expertise on a multi-year expedition in the Peruvian Amazon. Their research will improve understanding of the impacts of human activity at different scales, from the microbes to the landscape, and help devise solutions.
